Exploring ferry routes through hands-on testing for the best travel insights

Several times a year, we book ferry trips to experience as many ferry services as possible in a short period. This allows us to compare them thoroughly and provide potential ferry travellers with reliable and detailed information about specific routes.

We know what the ships look like, how easy it is to drive onboard, whether the onboard environment is clean, and even how much the sandwiches cost. Additionally, we find it important to gather our own video and photo material, which we can use across our platforms.

2024

In 2024, we were able to take a significant number of crossings. One of our most exciting trips was the Calais-Dover route, where we experienced all three ferry companies in just two days and even drove through the Channel Tunnel. A fun detail from this trip was how we managed to confuse British customs officers. When asked about our destination, our answer – “To France” – was not one they heard often! As a result, we were frequently asked to open the trunk and explain our plans.

Beyond that, we completed all ferry crossings between the Netherlands and England, tested both Stena Line and Irish Ferries on the Holyhead-Dublin route, and booked ferries from Ibiza to Formentera and from Ibiza to mainland Spain. Reports from these experiences can be found across various portals we manage.

2025

For 2025, we have an exciting lineup of ferry trips planned. Our focus will be on Nordic crossings, as well as multiple routes between England and France. We’re also hoping to include a ferry trip from England to Spain. Additionally, Corsica is on the list, and we’re eager to experience ferry travel in Thailand. These trips will be part of our personal travels, but as always, we make sure to include ferry journeys whenever possible!
